Edmonton Ki Aikido School

Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu

Instructor Biography:

Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu, Sandan.

At the beginning of the 1990’s Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu and friend Bogdan Radu Udubasa pioneered the introduction and teaching of Ki Aikido and Ki Development in Romania under the supervision and guidance of Sensei Norman Ford (5th Dan), a senior British teacher from the Ki Federation of Great Britain. In March 1991, with the endorsement and support of Sensei Kenneth Williams (President and Technical Director of the Ki Federation), Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu and Bogdan Radu Udubase opened the Romanian Ki Foundation, a non-profit making organisation, promoting principles of co-ordination of mind and body and Ki Aikido.

Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu organised numerous Ki Aikido seminars in Bucharest, where he invited several members from the Ki Federation’s Executive Committee. During this time he attended many Ki and Aikido courses both in Romania and in the UK under the instruction of Sensei Norman Ford, Sensei Ian Walters, Sensei Mervyn Williams, Sensei Ray Sturdy, Sensei Glynn Smith, Sensei Peter Hughes, Sensei Chris Wilmott and Sensei Ian Aitkenhead.

In the summer of 2001, he immigrated to Canada to pursue a career in mechanical engineering, settling in Edmonton, Alberta, where he resumed his practice and teaching of Ki Aikido, still under the supervision of the Ki Federation of Great Britain.

In the summer of 2003, after much deliberation he took the decision to resign from the Ki Federation. Between the spring of 2005 until the autumn of 2008, Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu studied Ki Aikido under the direct guidance of Sensei William Andrew, a former Executive Committee member with the Ki Federation, and now President and Technical Director of Aikido UK, based in Glasgow, Scotland.

Since a meeting in the summer of 2008 with Sensei Ray Sturdy in Somerset, England, he decided to continue on his path under the direction and mentorship of Sensei Sturdy. Sensei Sturdy himself resigned from the Ki Federation on Great Britain on the 29th August 2006, whereupon he established the Ki Aikido of Great Britain on the 1st September 2006.

Sensei Bogdan Chivulescu continues to teach and practice Ki Aikido and Ki Development in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
